Today is National HIV Testing Day

June 27th is National HIV Testing Day!

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is the virus that causes AIDS. Today, in honor of National HIV Testing Day, Help Any Way You Can encourages you to get tested for HIV.

The only way to know if you have HIV is to get tested. Many people with HIV don’t have any symptoms. In the United States, 1 in 5 people living with HIV don't know they have it.

Even if you don’t feel sick, getting early treatment for HIV is important: early treatment can help you live a longer, healthier life.

Am I at risk for HIV?

HIV is spread through some of the body’s fluids, like blood, semen (cum), vaginal fluids, and breast milk. HIV is passed from one person to another by:
  • Having unprotected sex (vaginal, anal, or oral) with a person who has HIV
  • Sharing needles with someone who has HIV
  • Breastfeeding, pregnancy, or childbirth if the mother has HIV
  • Getting a blood transfusion that has HIV (very rare in the U.S.)
HIV testing is covered for many people under the Affordable Care Act, the health care reform law passed in 2010. Depending on your insurance plan, you may be able to get tested at no cost to you. Talk to your insurance provider.

Welcome: The Sequel

Hello, and welcome to Help Any Way You Can, a blog created to help spread the word about events, organizations, or information that can benefit the community.

If you have been following this blog you may have noticed that it’s been awhile since its been updated. I underestimated the time it took to maintain a blog (shout out to all the bloggers, for all the work they do). However, I have learned a little more about blogging, and I will do my best to keep this blog updated.

If you are reading this blog for the first time, let’s cover some basics about this blog:

 1.  My name is Aminah, and I am the author and creator of Help Any Way You Can. In my spare  time,  I  like to write, read books, and learn about life and anything inspirational. I also like to spend  time with my family and find ways to better myself and the people around me.

       2. The reason I created this blog is because, I come across so many great causes, organizations,   and resources that help people, but I found unless you are in the right circles you may not even know they exist. I created this blog to share that information with you!

            3. As I mentioned before this blog will highlight various  causes, organizations, and resources that help people. Some of the topics that have been covered before include Stamp out hunger, HIV testing day, and Men’s health month.

4. How can you get involved? If you have a cause, event, or information you would like to share, if you have a comment, questions or if you would like to write for Help Any Way You Can please leave a comment or fill out the form on the contact us page!

In closing be well, be happy, be inspired!
